“If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster.” Clint Eastwood

So far this year, “sell in May and go away” certainly has proven to be reality. The equity markets declined about 6.5% in May and your statements will likely reflect this downturn. The problems in Europe, more jobless claims, volatile oil prices, and a rise in unemployment are the primary culprits.

It is so important to keep a realistic perspective when you invest. In comparison to the recent market declines, the rallies in the S&P 500 Index have been exceptionally good since the lows of March of 2009. Despite a world of worry out there, equities have proven their ability to grow over time. The S&P 500 is still ahead this year by 2.57%…much more than you can earn at the bank these days. This would suggest that “investors could benefit from staying the course and not panicking when the markets become volatile”.

For our clients who are mostly long-term investors, we have been buying during this decline. I believe there are many discounts and investment opportunities right now.  If you would like additional reassurance or to review your accounts, please get in touch in order to set up a meeting by phone, with Skype, or in person.

Once again, thank your for your patience and cooperation during our transition from National to Schwab. The majority of you have completed all of the forms and returned them to us promptly. Thank you. Please contact us if you are having any difficulties in completing the paperwork. We hope to have every account securely under the roof of our new custodian by June 30th.

It is very gratifying to know that you continue to have trust and confidence in our service. Thank you.

Today’s the day.
